Install solar PV panels to generate renewable energy
SEAI grants are available to individuals, small business, and large businesses.
The building was constructed before 2011.
Our PV solar panels cost around EUR6,500.
SEAI grants are currently available up to EUR2,400. Recently, the government decided to eliminate VAT from solar panels. It takes on average less than 5 year to pay back your investment in PV panels.
There are grants available through the SEAI to help offset the cost (subject to meeting eligibility re-quirements).
Payment options include: 1) Pay the entire amount up front or 2) pay 50% after survey, and the final bal-ance at installation.
With this grant, electricity is affordable.
Solar PV systems with 10 panels and a diverter for hot water are the most common. The average cost of the system is EUR7.975 (before grant). The site survey will determine the exact quote. This 10 panel sys-tem (4.1kWp) would cost EUR5,575. Solar Share has agreed to keep the same pricing for all installations that have paid deposits by May 1, 2023. Once installed, you can save up to EUR 1,190 per year (based on self-consumption of solar electricity of 2,280kWh plus exporting 1,220kWh into grid). At the current elec-tricity rate of 41c/kWh, your investment will be repaid in about five years.
A microgenerator can meet all or part of your energy needs. Government Microgeneration Support Scheme enables those with a registered microgeneration device to sell surplus electricity back into Ire-land’s electrical grid. This scheme allows householders to reduce their carbon foot print while saving money.
The date that your electricity meter is installed is what counts. This is not the same as other grant measures, where the house must have been built before 2011.
You can calculate the amount of energy required to power your house, business or
The cost includes paying for solar panels, an inverter, batteries, system wiring, and the installation fee. However, as with all new technologies, prices will continue to reduce over time. There are also govern-ment grants available to make the initial costs more manageable.
Sustainability guides are available to help you understand more about sustainable living
Solar PV panels (photovoltaic), which are most often installed on roofs, convert sunlight into electricity, without emitting carbon dioxide. You can use this to heat water, power your home or store it in a battery. You can receive credit of 21c/kWh for any surplus electricity that you export through the Microgeneration Support Scheme.

Solar energy is a way for the Irish Government to expand its mix of sustainable energy. They have put in place several incentives to encourage Irish consumers to switch to solar.

SEAI's grant for solar energy is a great benefit if you are planning to install solar panels.
2,400 The amount you get depends on the system size you have installed, measured by your solar panel's peak power output (in kW / kWp). 2,400 is the maximum grant. Larger installations still get this amount. Other things you get installed (such as batteries and immersion diverters) do not effect the amount of the grant.
Savings from solar panels can vary greatly depending on several factors. On average, homeowners in Ireland could save around 200-400 annually on electricity bills. It's important to note that savings will depend on factors such as solar panel efficiency, energy consumption, and sunlight exposure. 8 Feb 2023
around 10,000 - 12,000 The average cost of a 5kW photovoltaic system in Ireland is around 10,000 - 12,000. This includes the cost of the solar panels, equipment, and installation. However, it's important to note that this is just a rough estimate, and the final price will depend on the specific factors mentioned above. 29 Jan 2023
